our lava stone surfaces turn on the heat for Indya

Ranieri Lava Stone’s craftsmanship has proved incredibly close and personal at Indya. The creative genius in this project is the way a traditional Indian cooking method is displayed as a functional art installment using Ranieri lava stone. Furthermore, our ceramists used their craft to embellish the signature table tops, hand-painted according to the traditional decoration of the Amalfi coast

Indya is the latest restaurant by Indian Michelin chef Vineet Bhatia. Located at the Le Meriden Mina Seyahi in Dubai, the mood board for its interiors is all about bright, bold and big motifs.
With a hint of traditional culture, this Indian fusion fine dining restaurant set out to capture the modern vibrancy of a contemporary India.

LW Design was engaged to create the interiors for INDYA, where customers are promised the ultimate dining experience of Indian fusion cuisine on Ranieri Lava Stone’s signature stone surfaces.
Ranieri Lava Stone was honored to work with LW Design in partnership with Dubai-based surface specialists, SURFACE ELEVEN to make the client’s theme come to life.

The visible kitchen countertops

Part of Ranieri Lava Stone’s scope of work was to cut the lava stone top to fit the aperture of Indya’s tandoors. The vision is a seamless edifice of an Indian oven enfolded by European stone.

Not many people are aware of the fact that lava stone has been used as a cooking surface.
We have restored this ancient practice of stone cooking at INDYA in partnership with LW Design and SURFACE ELEVEN.
The team added the value of traditional stone cooking by redefining it for the modern age.
As the cooking stones become part of the countertop, the visible kitchen reveals the ethnicity of Indian ovens blending in with the beauty of Italian lava stone.
The creative genius in this project is the way a traditional Indian cooking method is displayed as a functional art installment using Ranieri lava stone.
The cooking method we are referring to is called ‘tandoori’.
A ‘tandoor’ is a clay oven that holds a small fire from slow burning wood charcoal for breads as well as marinated meats.
The tandoors at Indya presented the designers with a unique challenge, which was to keep them in the open while still maintaining design integrity of the space.
Ranieri lava stone was the perfect solution for two reasons:
1. It provides a seamless visual continuity spanning across each tandoor oven

2. Lava stone is the only natural stone that can withstand the high temperatures required for cooking.
If any other material were to be used, it would crack under the intense heat of the tandoor ovens.

Lava stone is the only natural stone that can withstand the high temperatures required for cooking. If any other material were to be used, it would crack under the intense heat of the tandoor ovens.

The challenge and risk was getting the size right and the cut to precision. Ranieri’s skill of cutting the stone went beyond a machine and the stone top at Indya shows our passion for bespoke interior design.
The show kitchen was fabricated using a 60mm think monolithic slab extracted out to reduce weight.
The design was skilfully maintained keeping the edge detail seamless with the top.

The choice of the colours

Matt glazed lava stone bar tops fit in with the space’s intended look and feel and Ranieri Lava Stone produced them in the sand gray shade.
The color compliments the boldness of the surroundings and brings a touch of class to the table.
Ranieri Lava Stone’s matt glazed shades have been tried and tested for color stability in a variety of available finishes. The designers went with a matt gray shade, but this isn’t the end of the story.

The tops of the main bar and private dining wine bar have a 40mm thick monolithic slab with sizes spanning 2.5 meters x 1.2 meters.

The tables painted by hand according to the tradition of Vietri sul Mare

A selection of table-tops were hand- painted by Ranieri Lava Stone’s team of artists.

The hand-made decoration typical of the Amalfi coast and can be applied on tiles, tables or any other lava stone surface.
The artistry is executed in our in-house workshops where we transfer Vietri hand-painting techniques from terracotta to lava stone. Ranieri artisans decorated signature table tops specifically for INDYA with the goal of enhancing every customer’s gastronomy experience with Indian fusion cuisine.
We invite you to visit INDYA on your next trip to Dubai. This Indian fusion restaurant is a true testament of the global landscape we live in and the coming together of cultures today.

our bar counter for alici, the Seafood Restaurant in Dubai Inspired by the Amalfi Coast

Welcome to another success story by Ranieri Lava Stone in association with Dubai-based surface specialists, Surface Eleven.
The restaurant comprises two levels, adorned by Ranieri Lava Stone bar tops: on the ground floor crudo and first-floor bars.

Alici Restaurant in the Bluewaters Island of Dubai

Alici is located in the Bluewaters Island of Dubai and overlooks the scenic landscapes of this dynamic city including the famous ‘Dubai Eye’.
The inspiration for Alici’s interiors comes from blue waters and bright moods; it’s a space bathed in neutral shades and heaps of natural light, blue tones, and white-washed wood.
When you think of seafood, the scent of the sea life usually accompanies the taste of fresh catch. This is what the new seafood restaurant in Dubai, Alici, aimed for by matching the interiors with the colors of the Amalfi Coast, from which it takes inspiration.
We would like to take you through the details of how the designer and client has interpreted this vision using Ranieri Lava Stone.
The team of Ranieri Lava Stone worked closely with Dubai-based surface specialists, SURFACE ELEVEN, with the designer of this project, LW Design, and the end client, the owner of Alici.
Our combined goal was to showcase the essence of Alici’s spirit by making the Ranieri Lava Stone bar tops and skirting one of the defining statements of the space.

The Innovation in Design and Color

The production process involved many 3d shaped forms, such as corner details; with a process of carving and glazing dedicated to each selected lava stone slab, destined to be a part of every single piece of the bar counter.
The bar tops have a total thickness of 85mm with an elegant and smooth edge profile detail.
The skirting was carved out of solid blocks and is 3-dimensional in form. The lava stone was produced with a cristallo finish by using a 5-axis waterjet, where the glaze is applied before the crystalline layer.

Because of its glassy element, the finish creates a stunning color variation that emphasizes the crackle effect and enhances the natural brightness of the rich sea blue color.

The finished look

Even though Ranieri Lava Stone has a range of shades on offer, we customized a light blue color for the bar tops. The color was selected to support the client’s vision of customers experiencing an endless sea indoors.

Our bar counter will be part of the open-air environment where everything will be an exclusive design experience. The custom designed countertop with its ad hoc crystal colors introduces a fresh, contemporary touch to the Resort lifestyle, known for its relaxed yet glamorous aesthetic.

The project

Ranieri Lava Stone is taking part at the Resort-wide renovation of the Fours Seasons Resort in Palm Beach.
The extensive project by interior designer Martin Brudnizki and architect Leo Daly is an incredible multimillion-dollar renovation inspired by Palm Beach’s relaxed yet glamorous resort style and the heritage of the famously elegant island.
Fernando Wong, one of the most influential landscape designers in America, being in- spired by the mid-century modern style, will bring the alfresco spirit of Palm Beach to life, with signature trees like pigeon plums, green buttonwoods, sables, Malayan coconuts and a monumental banyan tree at the Resort entrance.

The glazed lava stone bar counter on the main stage of the outdoor renovation project

The pool and beach experience is at the core of the Resort, as the outdoor life takes place here:

That’s why the outside areas are involved in a focal renovation, where our bar counter will be on the main stage to welcome the guests at the entrance of the beach area:

Our bar counter will be part of the open-air environment, between the pool and the elegant teak lounge chairs, where everything will be an exclusive design experience, from the custom designed lava stone bar counter to the custom patterned fabrics for the loungers.
“Palm Beach is a coastal resort known for its relaxed yet glamorous aesthetic. With a heritage synonymous with elegance, our work at Four Seasons Resort Palm Beach has drawn on the locale and history all while introducing a fresh, contemporary touch,” says Martin Brudnizki. “Our design mixes together an ice cream color palette inspired by the surrounding colonial architecture with elegant terrazzo flooring and warm woods, all reminiscent of grandiose homes that make up the neighborhood.”

Our glazed lava stone brings beauty and sustainability in the restaurants and co-working spaces of the exclusive Davines Village

Sustainability, beauty, a sought-after style and well-being meld and express themselves in Davines Village through the whole design, the technical and building solutions implemented and the choice of materials mainly of natural origin.
The restaurant area, located in the large central greenhouse, welcomes visitors with the glazed lava stone counter bar, in line with its guiding principle.

Davines village, the factory-village designed by Matteo Thun and based on the key ideas of the cosmetic leading brand, namely beauty and sustainability, tasked us with the realization of the areas, in partnership with Molteni&C|Dada, who took care of the furniture for the large central greenhouse used as a restaurant and co-working space.

DAVINES VILLAGE, GREEN VILLAGE

The main materials used in this project are of natural origin: the natural durmast for the village “houses”, the zinc-titanium roofs, the glass used as a covering, which gives the surfaces and each workstation the best transparency thanks to the natural light coming through.

THE USE OF GLAZED LAVA STONE

From the cut to the finishes and glazing, every lava stone application we use is custom-tailored.

Our lava stone has been chosen amongst the natural materials for the interiors of the greenhouse-restaurant, core of the whole complex of the Davines Village.
In partnership with Molteni & C|Dada, we realized glazed a custom-made lava stone covering the furniture of the corporate restaurant.
In the middle of the restaurant, guests meet around the vintage-style bar counter, inspired by the old bistros, and reinterpreted from a contemporary point of view through the glazed lava stone, chosen as an innovative, sustainable and uniquely beautiful material.

The restaurant is conceived along with the scientific vegetable garden, a real laboratory in the open, which, besides covering an educational role by showing visitors the natural ingredients in the cosmetic formulation, contains the cultivation of officinal and spicy plants, fruit trees and vegetables for experiments, demonstration and cooking purposes.
The choice of lava stone for the top coverings meets this need of mainly using natural materials to design sustainable spaces that enhance beauty, functionality, and importance given to the person.
The lava stone expresses its full potential here: it’s a natural 100% recyclable stone with a surface that can be decorated.

The lava stone tops that cover the Restaurant in Davines Village have been custom-cut out of lava stone monoliths, for this specific project.
From the cut to the finishes and glazing, everything is custom-tailored, custom-designed and custom-produced.
The result is a unique, natural and environment-friendly product, durable thanks to the glazing process it has been subject to, and versatile thanks to the multiple techniques through which the enamels can be used for decorations.
In the Davines project, the application of the Pure White glaze perfectly matches the design of bright spaces, completely in line with the outside.

Basin in pure lava stone

Elegant and intimate, through the pure shapes, the deep gray color and the texture of the volcanic stone, the basin in pure lava stone is designed to give functionality, energy and restoring beauty to the wellness environment.

The pure shapes, the deep gray color and the texture of the stone bring the memory and the energy of volcanic origin in the most intimate and restoring place, whether it is designed for residential or commercial spaces.
The lava stone used in bathrooms leads to an intense experience of harmony and purity.
This basin with the lava stone top is the latest proposal of Ranieri wellness line, which includes basins, bathtubs, shower plates and cladding in pure and glazed lava stone.

Our Made in Italy

The lavabo is extracted from a monolithic block of lava stone, through manufacturing techniques combining high technology and handmade finishes that the craftsmen from the Vesuvius area have been passed on for years.
Our concept of Made in Italy combines high technology and bespoke handicrafts, allowing us to guarantee our customers a wide range of different shapes, dimensions and surface finishes and realising a bespoke product, in accordance with the trends of contemporary design.
The basin in gray lava stone is smooth as a river rock and is characterised by a dark gray color, characterized by deep shade, due to the stone smoothing that intensifies the gray color of the volcanic stone.

Elegant and intimate, this piece of furniture is designed to give functionality, energy and beauty to the wellness environment of your home: externally, the cylindrical shape resembles a section of column thanks to its classic lines, the washbasin adheres elegantly and seamlessly to the polished lava stone top.
The inside of the bowl has the shape of a smooth and cozy half-sphere.
In order to get more protection from the stone when it comes in contact with water, the surface can undergo further treatment aimed at making the stone water-proof, while keeping its volcanic texture intact.
Such treatment tends to darken the color of the stone further and to make it more compact, by eliminating its natural porosity.

The lavastone guéridon table

Super simple, essential and iconic, the guéridon table fully expresses the beauty of our lava stone. Even through the smallest detail, this piece of furniture enriches the decor project with its pure and elegant style. The Guéridon table in lava stone is designed to furnish in style any lounge area for hospitality and retail projects, reception rooms in offices or home living rooms.

The Gueridon coffee table is part of the lava stone project designed by Charlotte Juillard. The lava stone is a raw material that the designer treats in a very peculiar way. She chooses essential geometric lines to enhance the colors of the glazed lava stone and the texture of the pure gray lava stone.
She does the same with this coffee table, which is also a tribute to the French Guéridon table: the traditional Guéridon from 18th century is characterized by tangled curved columns and a round top, which makes it a finely decorated piece of furniture.
The lava stone Guéridon honours such tradition by overturning its canons in order to highlight colors and geometries.
Two semi columns in gray raw lava stone work as a load-bearing base, but it’s the round top the real ornamental element, thanks to the range of glazes and effects that can be used on the lava stone surface.

Its pure lava stone finishes can be customized and shaped without any additional treatments; however specific finishes can be added to change the gray texture of the stone without altering its colors and natural design.
The top can also be colored by using the ever-changing palette of enamels and effects.
In the examples shown, we have applied a pale pink glaze and a sapphire blue one.

Isadora, the sculpted daybed for the hospitality, workspace and retail sectors

Versatile, elegant, never boring, the Isadora daybed has been designed for the hospitality, workspace and retail sectors, as an iconic element to welcome the customer and invite them to stop and take the time they deserve.

The Isadora sofa, carved out of a block of lava stone and custom-made by Ranieri from a design by Charlotte Juillard, is on its second version.
The daybed is amongst the most popular pieces of furniture preferred by our customers.
This convinced us to propose a new version, which differs from the previous due to the central position of the pillow separating the two seats, and the smaller size of the sofa, making it suitable for small showrooms, offices and retail shops.

The lava stone tabletops for hospitality

Ranieri Lava Stone encourages designers to approach us with new materials matching and detailing ideas for creative tabletop applications destined to restaurants, bars & hotels

The key features of the lava stone tabletop

What makes the lava stone a winner for creating custom restaurant tables?

Tables are key furniture in restaurants, bars, and hotels, which can add the finishing touch to the room, contributing to reaching the perfect ambiance and décor.
Choosing the best material for restaurant tables is a crucial task, depending on how materials compare in durability, looks, and price.

Let us summarize the key features of the lava stone tabletops.

The glazed lava tabletops are an excellent custom-designed product, which fits into any restaurant ambiance thanks to various design options:

colors and finishes

you can choose your color picking from an extensive portfolio of colors and customize the finishes, among which classic are: satin, semi-satin, glossy, metal, transparent.

shapes, dimensions, edge options

The shapes, the dimensions, and the edge options, they are likewise customizable.

materials matching

The wide-ranging materials matching is crucial for a custom-designed piece of furniture.
The lava surface is a multifaceted stone and can match with glass, textiles, and with wooden or metal frames:

the stone table top can match with different frames and supports

durability

Not last, we can affirm the excellent durability of the lava stone tabletop.
Due to the refractory nature of lava stone, the glazing and firing process makes the table resistant to impacts, to water,  to chemical agents and to warping or temperature fluctuations.
The low-maintenance surface protects the impact-resistant tabletop from moisture and makes it ideal for outdoor use.

In conclusion, the high-quality of material and finishes make sure that the tables still look great after many years of service.
The lava stone tabletop can be an everlasting elegant solution for both restaurants and bar interiors and outdoor restaurant patios or decks.
Out above, we believe the enameled lava stone tabletop is a top solution in hospitality.

Wild Outdoor

An outdoor lava stone shower for a private villa. The pumice finish enables the stone to be perceived as highly organic and natural, and mean that it can be perfectly integrated into the surrounding garden. Our natural stone masonry is 100% recyclable, for sustainable facades and outdoor claddings, patios, and paths.

the pumice finish as it is in nature, the color may vary from light gray to the darkest gray near to black.

Step into a wildlife garden can take you in a dreamlike dimension.
This has been our first feeling while visiting the place for our last outdoor application: an outdoor lava stone shower that has been requested for a private villa.
Our client asked for an outdoor stone shower cladding which could integrate into the project of the wild garden, a protective barrier that had to embrace and wrap around his residence.
The wildlife garden was prosecuted for promoting biodiversity and native plantings, and a general planted-by-nature effect.
Given that premise, we introduced a peculiar finish for the project: the pumice lava stone.
The pumice lava stone is for sure the most distinctive texture of our lava stone natural finishes.
It is requested when the natural rough look is to be enhanced, as in this project of a stone application which could integrate into the wild surrounding.
We submitted the idea to the client, who felt in love with this stone, where the volcanic origin is so and preciously preserved.

The lower environmental impact of a natural stone masonry

Our lava stone finishes are natural volcanic stones, 100% recyclable, with a limited production wastes, and highly competitive for sustainable facades and outdoor claddings and furniture.

The finishing process

The pumice finish enables the application to be perceived as organic and natural, and the surface, which can be further processed by sandblasting, is sometimes not worked upon at all, as just highly distinctive by nature! Under the projects, our craftsmen carry out a mechanical brushing to vary the shades of gray or brown:

For this outdoor application, our stone workers extracted the pieces from the rectangular block of stone and roughed out into a desired size and thickness with the help of an electric grinder and pointed chisels by the stonemason, shaped out to enhance the effect of the natural rock and provide the requested wild look.
