Our lava stone surfaces turn on the heat for Indya

Ranieri Lava Stone’s craftsmanship has proved incredibly close and personal at Indya.
The creative genius in this project is the way a traditional Indian cooking method is displayed as a functional art installment using Ranieri lava stone. Furthermore, our ceramists used their craft to embellish the signature table tops, hand-painted according to the traditional decoration of the Amalfi coast

Indya is the latest restaurant by Indian Michelin chef Vineet Bhatia. Located at the Le Meriden Mina Seyahi in Dubai, the mood board for its interiors is all about bright, bold, and big motifs.
With a hint of traditional culture, this Indian fusion fine dining restaurant set out to capture the modern vibrancy of contemporary India.

LW Design was engaged to create the interiors for INDYA, where customers are promised the ultimate dining experience of Indian fusion cuisine on Ranieri Lava Stone’s signature stone surfaces.
Ranieri Lava Stone was honored to work with LW Design in partnership with Dubai-based surface specialists, SURFACE ELEVEN to make the client’s theme come to life.

The visible kitchen countertops

Part of Ranieri Lava Stone’s scope of work was to cut the lava stone top to fit the aperture of Indya’s tandoors. The vision is a seamless edifice of an Indian oven enfolded by European stone.

Not many people are aware of the fact that lava stone has been used as a cooking surface.
We have restored this ancient practice of stone cooking at INDYA in partnership with LW Design and SURFACE ELEVEN.
The team added the value of traditional stone cooking by redefining it for the modern age.
As the cooking stones become part of the countertop, the visible kitchen reveals the ethnicity of Indian ovens blending in with the beauty of Italian lava stone.
The creative genius in this project is the way a traditional Indian cooking method is displayed as a functional art installment using Ranieri lava stone.
The cooking method we are referring to is called ‘tandoori’.
A ‘tandoor’ is a clay oven that holds a small fire from slow burning wood charcoal for breads as well as marinated meats.
The tandoors at Indya presented the designers with a unique challenge, which was to keep them in the open while still maintaining design integrity of the space.
Ranieri lava stone was the perfect solution for two reasons:
1. It provides a seamless visual continuity spanning across each tandoor oven

2. Lava stone is the only natural stone that can withstand the high temperatures required for cooking.
If any other material were to be used, it would crack under the intense heat of the tandoor ovens.

The challenge and risk was getting the size right and the cut to precision. Ranieri’s skill of cutting the stone went beyond a machine and the stone top at Indya shows our passion for bespoke interior design.
The show kitchen was fabricated using a 60mm think monolithic slab extracted out to reduce weight.
The design was skilfully maintained keeping the edge detail seamless with the top.

The choice of the colours

Matt glazed lava stone bar tops fit in with the space’s intended look and feel and Ranieri Lava Stone produced them in the sand gray shade.
The color compliments the boldness of the surroundings and brings a touch of class to the table.
Ranieri Lava Stone’s matt glazed shades have been tried and tested for color stability in a variety of available finishes. The designers went with a matt gray shade, but this isn’t the end of the story.

The hand-made decoration typical of the Amalfi coast and can be applied on tiles, tables, or any other lava stone surface.
The artistry is executed in our in-house workshops where we transfer Vietri hand-painting techniques from terracotta to lava stone. Ranieri artisans decorated signature table tops specifically for INDYA with the goal of enhancing every customer’s gastronomy experience with Indian fusion cuisine.
We invite you to visit INDYA on your next trip to Dubai. This Indian fusion restaurant is a true testament to the global landscape we live in and the coming together of cultures today.
