Glazed lava is born from the encounter between a primordial material and a complex process.

Colour is not applied: it reacts, fuses and transforms together with the lava during firing.

This process inevitably generates variations — subtle differences in tone, depth and reflection — which are not decorative effects, but the result of real chemical reactions.

For Ranieri, glaze is not a coating, but a relationship. A relationship that accepts unpredictability as part of the project and recognises that uniform perfection is incompatible with a living material.

Glazed lava is an expressive surface, sensitive to light and context, changing over time and perception. A colour that does not impose itself, but enters into dialogue.

Metamorphosis

Ranieri established the first laboratory devoted to research on lava stone—an inexhaustible field of inquiry, as the material’s intrinsic variables are further enriched by those arising from its capacity to transform through colour.

Chromatic research is continuous and potentially infinite. It does not seek to define a palette once and for all, but to build an open language—one that expands through testing, experimentation, and ongoing refinement.
